Cadet class battle hots up as BKA returns
As Barbados Karting Association (BKA) members prepare for round four of the 2025 Sectus Technologies Championship on Sunday (August 17), a close battle is developing for the Easykart 60cc Cadet class. Sunday’s Williams Equipment Raceday at Bushy Park will run alongside the BMF OK-J Development Nations Cup, starting at 9.00am.
With six wins this year and a total of 276 points, Jaydn Brathwaite leads the class, contested by the club’s youngest racers, from Jordyn Hinkson (243pts and five wins); victory on the road in June’s final race looked like Brathwaite’s seventh, but he was judged responsible for contact with Hinkson two laps from home, spinning the latter out of the lead into retirement, which earned him a 10secs penalty.
With Braithwaite demoted to second, Edward Norris inherited his first Bushy Park win in his Rookie season. Sixth in the class standings after finishing fourth and fifth in the season-opener in March, Norris has been steadily moving up the results sheets, claiming a string of third places in April and June, then running second before inheriting that win.
He is now fourth in the Cadet standings with 194 points, just one behind Shamir Eversley, the Reigning Cadet Champion and 2024 Rookie of the Year. Hinkson and Brathwaite finished second and third to Eversley last year and their rivalry is lighting up the St Philip facility each time they race.
Brathwaite and Hinkson are also second and third in the overall title chase behind 2022 Champion Driver and three-time Easykart 125cc Champion Calem Maloney, who has again been the dominant force in the class, winning 10 of the 12 races. Reigning Champion Driver Jacob Mayers and his cousin Zak have each won once, with another 16 podium finishes between them and both still feature in the top six overall.
The Easykart 100cc Juniors class was not fully subscribed in the first two rounds, which affects the points scored, but Aeden Bruce has won all 12 races so far to lie fourth in the overall standings.
