Ullyett and Maloney chase Thompson for BKA title

Champion Drivers Daniel Ullyett and Calem Maloney have narrowed the gap to Blake Thompson, current leader of the 2023 title chase, after the fifth round of the Sectus Technologies Championship at Bushy Park Barbados on Sunday (September 17). Ullyett is now just three points behind Thompson, while Maloney leapt from fifth to third overall, 25 points spread across the trio. Thompson started the day 18 points ahead of 2020 and ‘21 Overall Champion Ullyett in both the overall standings and in the 100cc Easykart Juniors, which was hard-fought all day. Third-placed Raizer Stoute was fastest in Qualifying and won the first race by 0.2sec from Thompson, despite slipping to third at mid-distance. While Ullyett won the three remaining races, Thompson was ahead for much of race three and each member of the battling trio led the final encounter, a mere 0.3sec separating them at the chequered flag after 12 laps.

Reigning Champion Driver Maloney was the day’s top points-scorer. He was fastest in Qualifying in 125cc Easykart Lights, by one-tenth from points leader Colin Bradshaw, won all four races and clocked a clean sweep of fastest laps. Sebastian Thompson was the only other race leader, briefly in the second event, he and Bradshaw sharing the podium places and ending the day on equal points. Maloney now leads the class by 16 points from Bradshaw, who has slipped to fifth overall, with Aaron Blackett third in class, after finishing fourth all day.

There’s a new leader in the 60cc Cadet class, too, where the race wins were shared by cousins Zak and Jacob Mayers. While Zak was quickest in Practice, Jacob topped Qualifying and went on to a winning margin of 5secs in race one, snatching the lead from his cousin on the final lap. Victory in the remaining races, however, propelled Zak into the class lead and up to sixth overall. Aeden Bruce is now second in class and eighth overall, having finished third behind the cousins throughout the day. Mark Thompson was the only points scorer in 125cc Masters, extending his lead in the class standings to 95 over Cody Mark, although he has now slipped to seventh in the overall table, ahead of Bruce, Jacob Mayers and Blackett.
