BKA racers back in action after six-week break
Blake Thompson and Daniel Ullyett will renew their battle for the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship on Sunday (August 13) when the BKA returns to Bushy Park Barbados after a six-week break. Just five points separate leader Thompson from two-time Champion Driver Ullyett ahead of the season’s fourth Raceday, sponsored by ?????.
Their battle for the overall title is also that for the 100cc Easykart Juniors, with Raizer Stoute third in class – he is also third overall - and Donche Blackman fourth. Ullyett, Stoute and Blackman represented Barbados in the 2023 Caribbean Junior Karting Academy Trophy (CJKAAT) at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Jamaica last month, in which Stoute was the highest-placed BKA driver, while Thompson had also pitched himself against the regional competition, in CJKAT22 at Bushy Park last November.
Leader of the 125cc Easykart Lights class Colin Bradshaw is currently fourth in the overall standings, with reigning Champion Driver Calem Maloney and Aaron Blackett second and third in the class. Maloney had been leading the Champion Driver title chase after two rounds but missed the Crane and Equipment-sponsored third round in July.
Aeden Bruce, who emerged from the UpBeat Wholesale Race Day in March at the top of the overall standings, has since slipped to fifth, but has retained his lead in the 60cc Cadets class. He has a healthy 29-point advantage, currently the biggest margin of any class leader, despite finishing behind Jayden Brathwaite on points last month, but faces a tougher test on Sunday with the return of the Mayers cousins, Zak and Jacob.
Mark Thompson, completes the top six in the overall standings, the only driver in the 125cc Easykart Masters class to have contested all three rounds. His opposition this weekend will include Maurice Fortier and Cody Mark, who led the class earlier in the year having beaten Thompson on points in the first two rounds.
