Easykart Juniors lead BKA overall standings

Just 60 points cover the top five drivers in the overall standings after three rounds of the Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship. With 100 points on offer at every round, drivers will need to bring their ‘A’ game to next Sunday’s (May 5) Raceday at Bushy Park Barbados, round four of the Championship.

  The top three young karters at the sharp end of the overall standings all come from the Easykart 100cc Juniors class. Having scored 255 points, Zak Mayers leads his cousin Jacob by 39 points after three rounds, with Aeden Bruce another seven points adrift. But Calem Maloney, leader of the Easykart 125cc Lights is snapping at their heels, just a further nine points behind Bruce.

  Maloney has contested only two of this year’s three rounds but has scored the maximum possible four race wins each time out in the BKA’s fastest category. While the Mayers cousins and Bruce fight among themselves, Maloney has been more dominant in his class, but will still need to maintain that consistency on Sunday, when there are 12 entries in the 125cc Lights.

  While Maloney is steadily closing in as he looks to regain the overall championship lead he enjoyed after the opening round, everyone will be keen to earn a good haul of points on Sunday so another day of wheel-to-wheel racing is in prospect. Kayleigh Catwell, who has been the BKA’s leading female racer in recent years, is second to Maloney in 125cc Lights with a strong record of podium finishes and lies fifth overall with 195 points, just one ahead of Shamir Eversley, who leads the EasyKart 60cc Cadets class.

  Sunday’s fourth round is scheduled for an 8.00am start.
